what is the best all purpose camera lens to buy or a more specific one?
Hi there.
I own a Digital SLR – Canon 400D. I have a standard lens that came with a package deal and inherited a tamaron 70-300mm lens last year. I am looking to buy another lens as I have managed to save up some money finally. I am looking get a compatible lens that serves all kind of photographic settings from portrait to fly on the wall documentary style shots. I was thinking of buying the EF50mm/f1.8 MK II but was dissuaded because it appears the EF50mm/f1.4 has sharper imaging, brighter color and less light fall. So, now I have got to thinking to get a lens that is suitable for all kinds of scenarios and is within my £150 budget. Looking for constructive and helpful advice hence calling upon genuine photography enthusiasts for some of their tried and tested know-how. Thanks.
The main thing you have to look at is what style of photos you take the most. Look through your old photos and find out what focal length most of them were taken with.
For me I use 95% of the time wide angle lenses around 20mm,28mm,35mm.
Generally for flattering portraits a lot of people opt for lenses around the 85mm-105mm mark.
So by finding exactly what you will use the most you will get the best lens for you money.
