What is a good all-around digital camera for an amateur with a good eye?
I’ve been experimenting with photography for a couple of years, but I’ve never “learned” anything from a class or a book–my photos look like I know what I’m going with f-stops and composition but I actually never learned anything of that; I just have a fairly decent eye. I had a Nikon CoolPix L22 which was just pathetic; color rendition was awful as was the zoom and macro features. (My iPhone 4 takes photos that are just as good.) I’m trying to find something that is in between THAT and a dSLR. As I said, I’m still an amateur so I want something that is portable and that I don’t have to lug around a case full of accessories with it.
My Dad is a Nikon devotee and suggested the CoolPix L120, but I have heard very good things about the S9100. I am certainly open to other brands, too.
