When looking for information on products to buy, do you trust users or ‘professionals’ more?
For example, I want to buy a camera. I look at a few and can’t decide which one to get out of 3. They are pretty cheap and have the same abilities and specs.
On site A, which is very mainstream and made of a team of people who review products all the time, they give camera 1 a good review compared to the others, saying it has only a few flaws which depend on the user’s preferences. Then there’s camera 2. They give it a very poor review, saying it has bad red-eye, a slow startup, etc.
And site A also has a user feedback section for each product they list. Even though there are a few people who like it, the comments on camera 1 are very negative, saying basically the same things as site A did about camera 2. And they give camera 2 extremely good ratings.
Then there’s also camera 3. It has an average review from both sides.
So my question/poll is this. Which camera would you buy? The one rated good by the site but not by users, the opposite of that, or the one in the middle?
Never trust a company or person who is directly financially supported by products. I recommend using consumer reports. They are a completely private organization that reviews products. You most likely will not be able to get the model you are looking at to be reviewed but it will give you a good indication of what a manufacture is doing. If a 2006 car is really bad a 2007 probably will not be much better.
