Where can I see 7D and 5D DOF comparison?

I’ve trawled the net and can’t find a simple side by side of the two cameras rendering the same image so I can compare DOF..

I have the greatest respect for the answerers above, but I don’t understand their responses to this one.

The catch is that you’d use a 50mm lens for portraits on the 7D to get the same field of view as an 85mm lens on the 5D. (Strictly speaking 50*1.6=80mm)

The difference in dof is equal to one stop. In other words, If you’d use f/4 on the 5D, you’d need to use f/2.8 on the 7D in order to achieve the same amount of background blur. If you’d use f/2 on the 5D, you’d need to use f/1.4 on the 7D (etc).

I’ll leave it to you to search for image samples for the specific lenses you have in mind, with the specific aperture settings, for a comparison of the image quality (incl. bokeh.) Flickr is usually a good place to start.

Take a focal length for the 5D, the corresponding focal length for the 7D (same field of view accounting for the 1.6 crop factor) and run the numbers for yourself.
