How much is a red light camera ticket in Maryland?
So it was snowing today and when I was approaching the red light I pushed on my brakes and I started to skid. To avoid a rear end collision I turned into the right lane where no car was and and skidded down this little incline and just turned right because I knew I wasn’t going to stop. Well after this whole ordeal happens I see that bright flashing light behind me and I knew it was a camera that just got me. I just want to know how much the ticket will cost me, keep in mind this is my first ticket, but I haven’t had my license for that long and I’m 18 and I know how adults feel about teen drivers.. meaning I’m probably screwed. But does anyone have an idea on how much this ticket may cost me?
Alright I found out the ticket from that light in the area that it’s in, will end up giving me a 75 dollar ticket.. Thank god it wasn’t something like 400 dollars.
It’s $75 AND it’s a civil citation. What this means is that unlike a regular ticket given by a cop, this one has no points, does not go on your record as a conviction, and has no effect on your insurance rate.
Furthermore, if you skidded due to icy conditions, you have a chance to argue your way out of the fine. This is a two-edged sword, because the judge might counter that you should have known better to allow more stopping distance when the road was icy. However if the icy in the photo is not visible, you might be able to argue that you are diligent but you could not have seen it in time.
