Typical language describing the zone system as zone 5 and ev5 as middle value.
Is there any error in describing the zone system as ev+/- on a cameras meter?
I.e. Camera meter reads, ev0 which is zone 5. And ev +1 as zone 6?
Film does not react the same way as sensors in cameras or light meters. what variable inconsistencies should i be aware of and how can i compensate?
Not quite, but I understand the confusion. ev in the zone system stands for exposure value. ev on a camera refers to stops. Unfortunately they do not mean the same thing.
You are right that zone V is middle grey. Zone 0 represents pure black and zone X represents pure white.
On a camera, you generally have 4 stops of exposure range between pure white and pure black. This would correspond to ev-2 and ev+2. So Ev +2 would actually correspond to zone IX (9) and ev-2 would correspond to zone I.
I know it is kind of confusing, but I hope this helps to make sense out of it.
