Can’t access functions on Canon Powershot camera.?
I have a Canon Powershot A2100 camera, and recently the image stabilization seems to have stopped working. I have tried looking through the menu, and the function set, but I can’t find where I can switch it on. I have looked online, and found a site which says that this camera has 3 settings for the IS, continuous, shooting and panning, available through the menu. I can’t find anything that refers to the IS in the menu. Also, when I press function set, I can only alter the picture size. I can’t access the ISO, the AWB, the timer, or anything else. I am sure these functions worked before, but someone else has been using my camera, and maybe they have altered something. Does anybody know how I can fix these problems, or have a link to a site which may help. Thank you.
Your User Guide does have all the answers. You just need to take the time to look through it. I downloaded a copy and had a quick look for you. I also have only ever owned Canon digital cameras, so finding this information is fairly easy and a little intuitive for me.
It seems your friend may have adjusted some functions…but, it only seems he/she adjusted them because they didn’t want everything set to Auto (which is what a ‘thinking’ photographer usually does). Or, they just didn’t know what they were doing, lol.
A number of functions cannot be accessed or adjusted while in Auto shooting mode. So, you need to use P (Program AE) instead. These include…ISO speed (unless ISO is set to ISO Auto). I never use Auto ISO because I prefer complete control. In good bright light you should use the lowest possible (80) and adjust accordingly when you need to.
AWB can be set while in Auto or P shooting modes. To change your WB to sunny, cloudy, custom, etc…you need to use P. So, if your white balance is set to anything other than AWB, you should use P to change it back to AWB.
The timer has a dedicated button on the back so it should be very easy to access. Unless of course you are using the ‘Easy’ shooting mode. If you are, use Auto or P instead.
Have a look at the VERY handy chart near the back of your User Guide…Page 120-123 ‘Functions Available in Each Shooting Mode”. It CLEARLY shows you which functions works where. Refer to it often if you’re not sure about the camera’s functions.
IS information can be found on the page 111. If you had referred to the ‘Menus’ part of the above chart (on page 122)…you would have found this information.
p.s. you CAN reset your camera to it’s default settings if you wish. Just look up ‘Default Settings’ in the Index.
And…the moral of the story is (lol) Don’t let ‘someone else’ use your camera, or you may regret it.
good luck
