two small black boxes on same traffic light pole?
I was sitting at some lights the other day on my way to work. and i noticed there were two black boxes on the set of lights, one was positioned on the top of the lights and looks like a cctv camera, i know that this is a sensor to aid traffic flow. but the other was attached to the side of the lights, angled downwards and it had a small red light that lights up when you drive through the lights. can anyone tell me what this is ? i am curious to know as i cant seem to work out what it is, because theres already a traffic camera on the top of the same traffic light pole.

And the red light only seems to light up when you drive through at night time.
As I explained to you yesterday, it’s a sensor to detect pedestrians.
The reason that it lights up when you drive through is quite simple.
It is a passive infra-red sensor, and works exactly the same as the ones used in burglar alarm systems, by detecting movement within range.
Look around your house, office, shop or whatever, and you’ll see small white boxes fitted in various places near the ceiling. When you walk in front of them or wave your arms around, you’ll see a red light come on. The alarm doesn’t sound because it isn’t armed, but the light shows that the sensor is working, and helps to align the sensor to cover the required area.
The same applies to the traffic light sensor – it is always active, but the system only reacts to the signal when necessary.
