Help with my camera please?

I need help!! The guide that came with it is rubbish.
Is it a DSLR or SLR? I’ve been looking at guide books and they mention both and I don’t know the difference :S
Any advice on the settings for good photos? I’ve been playing about with them and the photos aren’t that good 
The “R” in DSLR or SLR stands for “Reflex” and this camera is neither. The R means that light enters through the front lens then is split to go to an viewfinder. When you take a picture the light is somehow redirected to the device that captures the image – either the CCD or film. Your camera has no viewfinder; simply a display screen on the rear of the camera.
So, you have a Single Lens Digital camera – but not “Reflex.”
Start by using the Automatic settings to take photographs. Make certain you hold the camera properly – two hands – and work to get the automatic processes working correctly. Make sure there is enough light to take quality photos and you should have no troubles.
Once you have that part working then read the manual about the specific settings you can make for the operation of the camera. If you don’t understand what they mean then spend some time in a photography course or do more on-line research to see how the variations in the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture actually affect the photograph that you are taking.
With a 14Mpixel camera you should never have photographs that aren’t “that good.”
