Which camera should I use as a filmmaker and get a real Hollywood quality looking movie?
I want to shoot my first real movie next year. An independent feature. But i’m not sure which camera to use so I can get a real, and I mean real Hollywood quality looking movie, at least get close enough. I don’t want it to look like those indie flicks, nor a tv show or tv commercial, and of course don’t want it to look like if was made by a hand held home camcorder.
I was thinking in shooting digital. So I did some research and have been looking at a Panasonic DVX100, a Panasonic HVX200 and a JVC GY HD100.
They don’t give that much cinema quality, so I was thinking in getting a 35mm lens adapter also. Maybe a Letus35, but much likely a Redrock M2 adapter and attach a 35mm lens.
Which camera you guys think I should use?
Is there a better camera that I should take a look at, besides those 3 mentioned above?
I’m looking for a low cost. Something no more than $8,000.

Ahhh… The start of a filmmakers career. I remember when I first started, these were the only question rushing through my mind; film or digital, 24P or 30P, Interlaced or Progressive, 35mm, etc… Good time, soon I finally came down to a decision, but I am not going to bore you with that.
Coming from a professional videographer I would go with the JVC GYHD100. I currently own the 250 and it is a work horse. I use it for mostly everything such as feature length, commercials, indie, etc… The reason I chose JVC was due to its reliability and outstanding costumer service. Even though the JVC GYHD100 is a little expensive it is still a wise choice due to the fact that the JVC shoots is amazing low light and has all of your basic filming need (24P, HD, 720P). The other cameras do not shoot in HD I believe, I am not 100% sure. I would go with the JVC anyday, you get what you pay for believe me. The best thing about the HD100 is it is extremely simple to install a 35MM on it and get that beautiful, organic, film-look you have been searching for. The HD100 is a Pro-HD camcorder whilst the others are not… These days you can find the HD100-250 being used mostly everywhere due to there outstanding reliability and quality.
Go with the HD100, you will give your self a pat on the back once you have finished your first film. Good Luck!
