Best answer for whomever can tell me how these companies can SAY THIS and get away with it. Why would customers put up with that?
OK, I watched the video and read the articles. I have no idea what the so-called camera and microphone were in the Magnavox box. It might have been the IR sensor for the remote control. Or perhaps part of the smart antenna circuitry that some boxes have.
But please consider this. The converter boxes are meant to be hooked up to an antenna to receive DTV signals.They are one-way devices, i.e. receive-only. There is NO capability to transmit anything back to anyone.
So sleep well, no one is trying to spy on you. At least not through your converter box. Your telephone might be another matter.
