Photo split and with colored overlay SOOC?
I shot a few photos today with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i, using a Canon macro lens. When I downloaded the photos to my Mac, I found that four of them where… messed up. Three are kind of split and then “rearranged” (think puzzle) and one of them also has a green overlay over most of the image. The strangest thing is that if I look at the thumbnails on my finder (explorer, sorta) they show fine. Any ideas of who the culprit might be? Camera? Lens? Picasa (used to import)? Mac OS? This looks like a processing error, most likely when transferring the image from the camera to the computer. I say that because the .exif data is very limited on the images which could indicate that the images you downloaded were corrupted. This can happen if the memory card has not been erased properly or if there is a problem connecting the camera or card reader to the computer. It can also happen sometimes if a card has been used in more than one camera
Best practice is to –
1) COPY images from the card using a card reader onto a hard disk.
2) Verify the images on the hard drive
3) Make a back up copy on another hard drive (best) or CD (OK)
4) After doing this with ALL photos from the card reformat the card IN THE CAMERA not with a computer.
If you Moved the images to you hard drive instead of copying them the process usually “erases” the images from your memory card but, you may be able to recover them from the card with recovery software. The best chance is if no additional pictures have been written to the card but good recovery programs like Rescue Pro can often retrieve a surprising amount of data.
