Is there a cheaper software similar to Nikon’s Camera Control Pro?
-or any other software that i can use to tether my camera with my laptop?
-or if i can download it for free from somewhere?
Nikon’s CC Pro will let you change a few camera settings on the computer so is quite feature rich for tethered shooting.
Adobe Lightroom 3 also allows tethered shooting but computer just controls shutter, no other functions. It’s not free though :^(
Other alternatives are to use Windows (assuming you have a PC & not a Mac). It works with XP but I’ve not tried it with Vista or 7.
Attache camera to laptop with USB cable & turn on camera. If Windows file transfer box pops up, cancel it. Go to My Computer & look under Cameras & Scanners. There should be an icon for you camera. Double click on it & a blank window will open. On the left hand pane you can use the computer to activate the shutter on the camera (or use the camera shutter). The image will appear as a thumbnail in the blank window.
Alternatively if you want wireless shooting straight to laptop AND your camera takes SD cards, use an Eye-Fi SD card;

This will send the image wirelessly to your laptop when you shoot (or to online sites as well). You do need to be in a WiFi hotspot though.
