Christmas Portrait tips?
I want to take a Christmas portrait of my sister similar to this http://flickr.com/photos/odesi/3116412344/ How do you get the bokeh in the background like that?? I have tried and I just can’t seem to get it right. I have a camera with manual settings and I tried setting the aperture to the lowest setting which is 2.8 and then using manual focous to make the subject in focous and the background out of focous and it never turns out like that. Also what light do I use?? Any other tips you can give me for a Christmas portrait?? Thanks!!
Try sitting your sister farther away from the tree, but with it still as your entire background. That will increase your depth of field a bit. As for lighting, as I assume you dont have anything professional, try a lamp at level with her head, shade off unless that is too bright, and set it about 6 feet or so away. That may work, depending on the available light in the room.
