How do I use my SLR camera?
I got a used Olympus E-410 Evolt camera from my uncle when he bought a new one. ( A Canon Rebel ). Anyway, I’m really confused about it. I know NOTHING about photography and I’ve been using fully automatic point-and-shoot cameras my entire life. So I have some questions:
1) What is aperture, how do I adjust it on my camera and what are the uses of changing aperture settings?
2) What does exposure change in a photo and how do I adjust it on my camera?
3) What are the other manual settings on my SLR camera which I can change and I can benefit from and how do I change them on my camera?
Please please please. I have a pretty expensive camera that’s being used as a paper weight right now because I really don’t know how to use it and I want to really start getting into photography.

It is tough to give helpful answers briefly. So let me offer you three tips:
1. Go online and type in the make and model of your camera (Olympus E-410 Evolt) and do a search for an owner’s manual if your uncle didn’t give you one. If it isn’t available online, contact the Olympus company and ask if you can get a copy.
2. Go to your local library or bookstore and get a few basic photography books, or take a class. (And have your uncle show yout the basics.)
3. Experiment on your camera. Try the different settings by shooting multiple shots of the same subject, then see how the different settings change the image.
