New to b/w manual photography, need some help with metering?
I have a minolta x700 and I read somewhere that in sunny weather you’re supposed to set the aperture to f/16 and meter from there. But it’s metering a really low shutter speed, and I was told that you shouldn’t use anything below 1/60.
I’m pointing the camera to the ground to meter it
Any suggestions? Thanks
There’s no 1/400 on my camera but it’s definitely no where’s near 400.
My photography professor says point it towards the ground if it’s giving an unusual reading.
@ Jeff – You’re right, I should have noted that I don’t have a tripod, lol!
Your meter is not working?
The sunny 16 rule is this f/16 @ 1/ISO of the film in bright sun. If your meter is reading anything different, you need to have someone look at your cameras meter.
The way meters work is you aim the camera at the subject. Who told you to aim it at the ground? You will never see pros doing that … we would miss too many shots AND get the wrong exposure.
