my slr camera’s lense dont auto-focus. is it the camera body or lense that is bad. batteries are new?
this is a canon rebel g. its several years old now, but so are the lenses. when taking a pic, it sounds like its trying to focus but doesnt. is it normally the lense that goes out first, or the camera body? its the same with both lenses. is it cheap and easy to fix?
Here are a few things to try.
– On EF lenses there is a switch labeled AF/MF. Make sure it is on AF (which stands for auto focus – not MF (which stands for Manual Focus)
– If none of the lenses will focus, take some alcohol and a soft cloth and clean all the pins on the lens mount. You can also check to make sure none of them look damaged. The focus motor is in the camera, but the body is telling it how to focus.
– You should also ensure you are focusing in good light – on some lenses if the light is low (especially on consumer lenses attached to a consumer body like the Rebel) your lens will hunt forever and never lock.
If none of this works – your body is bad and I suspect it would cost more to repair than to just replace with a used body (check out KEH.com)
