Verizon Samsung SCH-u340 Phone doesn’t have a sims card slot. Is this a Verizon thing or outdated beyond use?

Its a Verizon thing. They use CDMA technology to carry their cell signal and it does not use SIM cards. However the phone is not worthless. It may have value to a customer of AT&T that uses GSM cellular technology and SIM cards in their phones.
