On my Canon SLR, what are the best settings to use for band pictures?
I’ve JUST gotten into photography and bought a new camera. Tonight I’m shooting pictures at a concert for a funk band. I don’t want to have to resort to my flash but that means I need to know any tips on aperture, shutter speed, ISO, anything.
I have a Canon T1i SLR
assuming it is an indoor concert with low lights, you may want to take fast snaps to prevent blurs.
crank up the iso, the t1i has excellent low light capabilities. stick to iso 1600, if needed go upto 6400-its not too bad and some pictures can be repaired in post-processing.
open up the aperture, as large as possible. basically anything to help keep the shutter speed fast (1/15 or faster, depending on your steadiness).
and of course, a tripod always helps.
using flash isn’t necessarily a bad thing. flash on a slr isn’t like the ones on a point and shoot. slr flash combined with concert lightning, may turn out interesting results!
try using night portrait mode, chances are the band people might just be steady for a while!
