What are some really good books about the future / near future?
I’m not really a big reader, but I love books about the future… Not future as in robots taking over the world or cyborgs… Future as in a controlling government, spy cameras in everyone’s home. Etc. Some books that I absolutely loved that are kind of like this are The shadow child series which is about the future and how you can’t have more than 2 kids. And I also really enjoyed the giver…. Does anyone know any books that are similar to these? Thanks so much in advance..
I really liked The Shadow Children as well, and if you liked that, then Boot Camp is a good one for you, too. It’s a single German book (translated to English) that, although taking place in modern times, is about a place where rich parents send their children because they do not behave as they want them to, even though their actions might not be bad. For example, one character’s father sent him to Boot Camp because he wanted his son to be buff and play sports, but his son was more of a skinny intellectual.
If you’re looking for more futuristic books, try The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer, and Epic and its sequel Saga by Conor Kostick. They both take place in the future, but Epic and Saga are more about virtual reality (video game-type) than futuristic reality, like the Supernaturalist.
