If you could have only one fixed focal-length lens on your camera, what would it be?
The focal length you should quote should be for the 35mm film format. I’ve just bought an old SLR camera with screwfit lenses, and am curious to what you would recommend to be the lens which I will probably use with it most of the time.
Another vote for a fast 50mm lens. In fact, that is all I used for years on my first 35mm SLR Minolta many, many years ago. It is just a great all around lens that gives you a look as you see it with your eyes. If you are walking along and see a scene you want to shoot, you have a good idea of exactly how it is going to look in your viewfinder without even bringing the camera up to your eye.
I still use primes on my medium format Mamiya camera.
