What is a VGA Camera?
I’m looking for a new phone online and I’m wondering what a VGA Camera is and how many mega pixels it has.
VGA is a standard resolution of old VGA monitors, that camera makers adapted as a way to nicely say 640×480 pixels (that’s the resolution those monitors had). 640×480 pixels is about 0.3 megapixel. Not enough for anything but a somewhat distorted 4×6 print, even with the best optics and sensor. Now, in the phones the cameras have neither, so even a high-megapixel camera phones produce images of questionable quality. So a phone with VGA camera is just that – a phone. A camera in it is good enough to snap a price tag in a store, so that you can later research the item online at home (that’s how I use my 3mp camera in a phone I have, as it’s not really good for much more). The cheapest and simplest digital camera out there would give you better (or at least on par) image quality to the most expensive and advanced camera phone.
